America’s Last Pristine Wilderness

Alaska is one of the few remaining wild places where you can experience the power and glory of nature, pristine and untouched. No wilderness on earth compares to its splendor – where caribou thunder across the tundra, wildflowers carpet the landscape, whales leap from oceans teeming with fish, the sound of calving glaciers explodes in the wilderness, bears feed freely on abundant salmon, and the sun never sets.

Alaska’s specialty is wilderness, and to touch, feel, hear, and smell it is the essence of what we do for you. Our trips provide an intimate experience: each day in the wilderness gives you another chance to be part of something bigger than us all. You’ll come home with your own special moments you’ll never forget, and will also return feeling fit, energized, and revitalized.

35 Years of Experience

Alaska Discovery was founded in 1972 on the premise that the very best way to protect Alaska’s fragile wilderness is to immerse people in its natural beauty, instilling a passion for America’s last frontier. Since then, we’ve become Alaska’s premier wilderness guiding company, leading thousands of visitors on unique adventures throughout the state. Today, as part of Mountain Travel Sobek, our commitment to guiding adventures in Alaska, as well as to preserving its wilderness, is even stronger.

Guides with an In-depth Knowledge of Alaska that is Unsurpassed

Expert leaders with vast Alaska and international guiding experience and extensive training and education will take you to the best and wildest places, provide you with a solid understanding and deep appreciation—and keep you entertained throughout it all (and by the way, they are great chefs!).

Exclusive Access

Our permits in Alaska’s finest wilderness areas give you greater access than any other company. In addition to holding one of very few permits to guide overnight sea kayaking expeditions in Glacier Bay National Park we are also one of the few companies permitted to operate in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and Kluane/Wrangell-St. Elias/Tatshenshini-Alsek World Heritage Site.

Commitment to Conservation

For more than three decades Alaska Discovery has pioneered the concept of ecotourism by connecting people to some of the most wild, scenic, and fascinating areas of Alaska while walking softly on the land. We educate guests about the natural intricacies, balances, and rhythms of the areas we visit. Our commitment to sharing the wonders of Alaska for “the enjoyment and conservation of the great Alaskan wilderness” still stands as our company mission.

We are a founding member of the Alaska Conservation Foundation and contribute to numerous Alaskan conservation organizations through our “Dollar-a-Day” program. Among our many awards, we have received the prestigious Outstanding Long-Term Program Award of the Alaska Land Manager’s Forum for excellence in dedication and commitment to ethically and socially aware use of the land.
