Alaska's Oldest Guiding Company

Our 35 years of experience in Alaska give us great advantages as an Alaskan outfitter. Alaska Discovery started guided hiking, sea kayaking, canoeing, and rafting tours in 1972 to bring public awareness to the special beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. Alaska Discovery was the first to pioneer many new river and sea kayaking destinations in Alaska. Over the years we have developed what we feel are some of the best wilderness experiences available in Alaska. We would love to share our Alaska with you!

Exploring the Best of Alaska's Wilderness

Our status as permit holders to many of Alaska's wilderness areas gives us more options and flexibility than any other company. We hold the one of very few permits to guide sea kayaking expeditions into Glacier Bay National Park, the majority of launch dates on the Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers, the majority of permit dates to visit the Pack Creek Brown Bear Sanctuary, as well as permits in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Gates of the Arctic National Park, Wrangell St. Elias World Heritage Site, Tongass National Forest, and many others. We have chosen the absolutely best areas for each of our trip offerings.

The Guides with Alaskan Expertise

We have a wonderful, experienced team of over 35 guides with vast international guiding experience combined with the deepest knowledge of Alaska. We will guide you to Alaska's wildest places, help you explore their mysteries, and keep you laughing throughout it all. When not exploring the Alaskan wilderness, our guides may also be seen in anything from magazines to movies, from international rafting competitions to an anthropological seminar. It is quite an eclectic group! Meet our guides.

Small Groups – Big Experiences

Sharing adventure with others makes it real. Our group size ranges from 8 to 12 guests. The wilderness areas we visit have strict regulations on group size. With a small informal group we can lead people to discovery, rather than herding them to the next destination. Our discussions allow for personal exchanges rather than canned lectures. Alaska is a big country, but we travel light and small and leave no trace behind. And, you may find some of your best memories of our trips are of the friends you make along the way.
